This service is then marked with a recharge collar, or a paper ring placed at the neck of the cylinder. CCR Subchapter 7, Group 27, Article 157, §6151. Portable Fire Extinguishers
The cost of servicing fire extinguisher versus replacing extinguishers is much less. Reasons to have your Fire Extinguishers Recharged
The Fire Extinguisher has been Discharged
Always recharge extinguishers after they have been discharged, even slightly. You may confirm a a discharge by checking the gauge at the top of the extinguisher. A charged cylinder will be indicated with a needle in the green or charged area of the gauge reading.
The Fire Extinguisher Service Date is Past Due
Fire extinguishers store pressurized gas and chemicals. Over time, various parts (valve assemblies, gaskets, seals, o-rings, collars, ring pins, chains, lock wire seals or the extinguisher cylinder) will deteriorate and leak, releasing pressurized gas and damaging the assembly. Once this occurs, the ABC dry chemical powder may cake at the bottom of the cylinder, rendering the extinguisher inoperable.
